Green Ham From Eggs
Researchers from National Taiwan University's Department of Animal Science and Technology have created glow-in-the-dark pigs by adding jellyfish genes to pig embryos. These aren't the first transgenic pigs, but their creators claim the pigs represent an improvement: The luminous porkers are green inside and out, from their internal organs to their teeth -- bright by night but only mildly odd looking by day.
This sets the stage for some impressive culinary pyrotechnics. Assuming the animals' fat retains its phosphorescence, the spattering grease from frying glow-in-the-pork bacon ought to look like a minature fireworks display if done in a dark kitchen.
