Thieves Menace Pretend Pirates
Two unnamed actors have left the Caribbean resort of Port Lucaya -- where the next two Pirates of the Caribbean films are being shot -- for fear of thieves, according to Jason Kakebeen, chief executive of Jemini Seven Entertainment. In Hollywood, "unnamed" is used to describe actors you haven't heard of. As reported by The Times, repeated robberies have brought production to a standstill. Ironically, the publicity value of the incident may exceed the losses.
Even as cinematic pirates flee for their lives, real-life cutthroats could soon be doing the same. Fed up with crime off its coast, the African nation of Somalia has hired Topcat Marine Security to help sink the pirates that have been plaguing cruise liners and cargo ships in the area. Whether or not Tomcat is successful in cleansing the sea of riffraff, the firm can probably turn its efforts into a lucrative film deal.
