Govt. Lab Offers Explosion Simulation Software
Los Alamos National Laboratory is making its Java-based CartaBlanca 2.0 computer simulation software development environment available to the public. A technical paper describing the software says it can be used to simulate explosions. CartaBlanca aims to simplify modeling and visualizing complex physics, materials science, and computational fluid dynamics equations and experiments. The offer reflects the government laboratory's aim to transfer technology developed with public funding to the private sector in order to boost U.S. commercial competitiveness. Fees for commercial use start at $10,000. The Academic license costs $1,000 per site. The Student license is free with any ticket to Iraq, but it limits user control when modeling explosions.
