Google VP on Intelligent Design
In a speech given at recent Salesforce.com event, Adam Bosworth, VP of engineering at Google, talks about the difference between the old model of software development and the current rapid fire iterate-and-release paradigm practiced by Google, Salesforce.com, Yahoo, and the like.
Most educated people, apart from a certain president we have, are aware that evolution is not about intelligent design. There was no grand plan that we have been tending toward. It's merely a reaction to the environment, doing those things that cause you to survive better than your competitors and evolve accordingly. Well, software is evolving in the same way right now. It is not about intelligent design. It's about intelligent reaction. It's about figuring out what works for people, which will change over time.
