Reservist Jobs Not Reserved
Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.'s latest press release about 2004 employment trends predicts that some reservists returning from Iraq "will find that their jobs have disappeared or have been radically altered in their absence." And of course, it's legal to screw those who've gone overseas to serve: "There is a lot of confusion regarding workplace laws when it comes to reemploying reservists. Calls to a support organization that advises employers and guardsmen about the laws have tripled to nearly 22,000 per year since September 11, 2001. The basic law says employers must reemploy reservists in the same or similar position. However, should financial circumstances change dramatically, and job cuts become necessary, for instance, companies are exempt."
