Brand Me
The London office of Acclaim Entertainment, the UK publishers of the Turok videogame series, is seeking five suckers to sell their souls: The company wants to usurp their identities for a year. For £500 plus some swag, these "adventurous individuals," as the company calls them, earn the dubious honor of exchanging their real names for "Turok." (All this makes me more inclined to believe the rumor that "Turok" means "Dumb-ass" in Navajo.) Associated Press writer Bruce Stanley reports that "the Institute of Science in Marketing, a business group supporting the effort, expects its so-called Identity Marketing technique will catch on as the next big thing for companies eager to reach consumers dulled to conventional advertising." It would be far better if the next big thing were an asteroid aimed at Acclaim.
